Maya Devi Goel Public School was founded by Late Sh. Madan Lal Goel in 1995 in the fond memory of his mother Smt. Maya Devi under the aegis of Shri Purushottam Das Goel memorial trust. The school was initially started in the family house of Shri Madan Lal Goel in the centre of Mandi Ahmedgarh with 32 students on roll. The school gradually grew and in 2005 just after a gap of ten years, it was shifted to the newly constructed building in an area of two acres of land, on Ahmedgarh Road, Pohir. The school Started its new era when it moved to its new location. Today the school has nearly 900 children on roll. The untouched and tranquil surroundings make a perfect background for education, sports and other outdoor activities.
Accommodation:- The school building is double storeyed, painted White and Red and is situated amidst emerald green fields encompassing it all around. The school has 41 spacious bright and airy rooms that are being utilized as class-rooms. There is a big office for the Principal and a staff room. There is a computer room, Library and reading room and separate rooms for dance and music. The school is 25 kms from the main city of Ludhiana, 20 kms from Malerkotla and 1 km from MandiAhmedgarh. Three separate science labs for physics, chemistry and biology are also in the school for purpose of practicals. In addition to these, labs for Maths, English communication skills and Social Studies are also available in school.
Academics:- The school is affiliated to CBSE and has classes from Nursery to XII. The academic year starts in April and the final exams are conducted in the month of March of the following year. The medium of instruction is English. Hindi and Punjabi are given due importance and are the main languages taught. Besides the six compulsory subjects Art, Music, Dance, Yoga, Computer and English communication skills are provided as co-curricular activities. Separate qualified staff is appointed for the purpose. Special emphasis is laid on sports activities and all students are encouraged to participate in at least one choosen game and excel in it.
The school is in the process of getting affiliated to the central board or secondary education New Delhi . The school authorities have a vision to expand the school up to the college level.
